Supply Chain Resilience In Aseptic Manufacturing
Over the past two years, supply chain issues have been in the spotlight as worldwide disasters like the pandemic have continually tested their strength and resilience. While the demand for some products declined exponentially, the need for pharmaceutical products skyrocketed.
Having a solid supply chain strategy is critical in today’s new normal. A resilient supply chain is one that can both resist the impact of supply chain interruption and quickly recover from a disruption. Using firsthand knowledge and close relationships with vendors, our team at Grand River Aseptic Manufacturing (“GRAM”) secured a strategy in case of significant disruption.
To sustain GRAM’s resilience and success in the CDMO market, we implemented additional tactics to further strengthen our supply chain, including significantly expanding our facilities and investing in flexible technology for aseptic manufacturing.
Expansion of filling facility
After a $50 million investment, the phase II filling facility expansion is nearly complete. We have expanded our facility’s square footage and implemented innovative equipment. This expansion increases our capacity and capabilities with other modern filling line technology as we continue to support the development of pharmaceutical products.
New technology
In addition to our growing facilities, our organization invested in advanced technologies to support the increasing need for versatile aseptic fill and finish services. For example, we brought on the VarioSys® syringe, cartridge, and vial filler to serve clinical and small-scale products poised for scaleup to one of our commercial filling lines.
Overcoming and sustaining resilience
While our team ensures the security and strength of our supply chain needs, we have also maintained the heart and grit to achieve successful results. The most agile supply chains do more than resist and recover from hardship – they continually implement processes that allow them to anticipate and respond quickly to risks the future may bring.
